Bittersweet

(DISCLAIMER: This picture is proof as to why I should not edit photos...I don't even know how to fix this washed out attempt at "sepia".) Moving on...
Bittersweet chocolate is a nice compromise for milk chocolate (which for some recipes can be far too sweet) and dark chocolate (which can be crazy not sweet). This week has been a bittersweet week for me. I've been debating all week whether or not to post about it, but have decided that I learned a lesson important enough for me to share. My most fabulous, kind friend, Rach called me up with some very sad news. We needed to go and be there to support our other fabulous amazing friend. We packed up all 4 of our kids, overtook her gorgeous new car, and made our way out west. What a wild range of emotions...grief, sadness (are they the same thing?), happiness, excitement, and frustration (NOTE: There are not enough "snacks" in the world for my children to make up for my not having a portable DVD player...next time, I will just fork out the cash and buy one).Good friends mean so much to me. It was so wonderful to see Rach. She is a long-time friend of mine (9 years to be exact) who has taught me so much about compassion and kindess...not the greasy kind that you slather in peoples faces...the kind that happens when no one knows or is looking. The kind of friendship that drops everything and anything when the worst has happened to you, simply to come and be there, which is all you need. This weekend, she was able to show and remind me of just how that kindness can really help someone. It reminds me that we really can be angels on God's errands. We can be the ones to help, uplift, and take care of those whose heads hang down or those who are weary. I am so grateful for friends like this who are so influencial in my life for the good. While the occassion of us getting together was bitter, being together was so sweet.

Courtney, I am so sorry for not getting back to you on the DVD player--you TOTALLY could have borrowed it! I feel so bad!! So don't fork out the cash next time--just call. Who knows, maybe when I don't live across the street from you anymore--I'll actually see you more. What a beautiful friend you have, this was a beautiful post!!!
